The Best Buttercream Frosting

Top those Cupcakes off with this frosting.  It is by far my favorite.  Not too soft, but not too hard.  Add sprinkles right away after decorating if you choose:

The Best Buttercream Frosting (especially for cupcakes and cakes)


½ Cup Shortening

½ Cup unsalted Sweet Cream (Butter), softened

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon almond extract

4 cups Confectioner’s Sugar

2 Tablespoons Milk



  1. In mixer, cream shortening, butter, vanilla and almond extracts.  Make sure fully creamed
  2. Mix in Confectioner’s sugar one cup at a time.
  3. Mix in milk and continue to mix until light and fluffy ( at least an additional 2 minutes)
  4. Keep frosting covered until use or store in refrigerator.  Bring to room temperature before use.
